I took a four day weekend – Travel Advisor Chronicles n1

It’s hard to take time off. Even with a business in travel. A business that is all about having fun and making dreams come true.

Starting a new business is fun too. I love getting to learn so much about something I am so passionate about. I love thinking all day about how I can be better and how I can do things better. I try my best to keep up with everything. Mostly training and quoting takes up my time, but over the long weekend I could not stop thinking about marketing and trying to be more hands on with my website.

So this blog is a bit personal. I want to introduce you to this beautiful world of travel.

There has been a super sonic boom of people wanting to become travel agents these days. My thoughts is that we all endured a pandemic and we don’t only want to get out and have fun ourselves, we also want to see other people’s travel dreams become a reality.

It is truly fun for me to help you. I love learning and I love serving others. Making a small penny along the way just makes it all that much better.

So how did I decide on this career?

For me I always LOVED to travel. I got to go to Europe when I was a small child and looked for opportunities to travel as I grew.

I have a passion to learn. I would love to have an eidetic memory – I know, probably really good I don’t! – but I would absolutely love to be able to retain everything I learn.

Last, but certainly not least, I love to help people. I love being able to help pull someone’s random or jagged thoughts into a nice laid out, easy to understand plan. I love seeing your excitement (and mine) as your dreams start to come together. I truly love seeing your joy when the days are near and hearing all your awesome travel stories once you’ve returned home!

I really can’t fail to mention also that even as a child I remember going into a travel agent’s office and just thinking it was the coolest place ever with all the fun, colorful flyers representing a small handful of the beautiful destinations around the world.

Over the years, I thought about it. I thought about hammering my stake into the ground and committing to helping people design their dream vacations for almost two decades now.

So what took me so long? What took so long for my dreams to come to fruition?

I know for a lot of people fear and start up cost would have been a big deterrent, but the biggest thing for me is that I simply did not know how to start.

You may be asking yourself that same question: “How do I become a Travel advisor?”

Two decades ago it seemed almost impossible to find good, solid information as guidance and today every time I open Facebook someone is advertising for people to join their “Team” and make “money booking travel for themselves.”

Ugh. Is this what this beautiful, fascinating industry has turned into? If your anything like me, that seems very “trendy” to me and as it is really big right now, give it a year or two. Those who love travel and love seeing other’s dreams come true will still be in it and those in it for the “trend” will slowly fade away.

So where does that put me? HA! I really can’t predict the future. All I can say is somewhere in my heart I feel the pull and the beautiful words echoing, “Go! Wander! Find your joy amongst God’s beautiful creation.” – Leslie
